Health Goals Impacted 3
This item supports, tracks, or is required for the following health goals:
Precursor to Glutathione.
Glutathione is the "master antioxidant" and the primary molecule used for Phase II conjugation. The body's ability to make glutathione is limited by the availability of cysteine.
NAC provides this rate-limiting amino acid, refilling the liver's reserves. It is the standard medical treatment for acetaminophen (Tylenol) overdose because it rapidly restores the liver's detox capacity.
Boosts Glutathione to protect immune cells.
When immune cells attack pathogens, they release oxidative bursts. Without sufficient Glutathione (via NAC), these cells can damage themselves or surrounding tissue, leading to excessive inflammation.
NAC also acts as a powerful mucolytic agent, breaking down mucus in the respiratory tract. This prevents bacterial colonization and improves lung function during respiratory infections.
Increases Glutathione for skin brightening.
Glutathione inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme that produces melanin. Higher levels of glutathione shift the production of melanin from darker (eumelanin) to lighter (pheomelanin) pigments, potentially brightening the complexion and reducing age spots.
