Health Goals Impacted 4
This item supports, tracks, or is required for the following health goals:
Protects the liver from inflammation.
Detoxification is an oxidative process that generates free radicals. Curcumin protects the liver from this "friendly fire." It also stimulates bile production, helping to flush toxins out of the liver and into the gut.
By keeping bile thin and flowing (choleretic effect), Curcumin prevents the stagnation that leads to gallstones and poor toxin clearance.
Systemic pain reduction.
Curcumin targets the COX-2 pathway (similar to ibuprofen) and reduces levels of MMPs (matrix metalloproteinases), enzymes that chew up cartilage. It is highly effective for reducing the throbbing, inflammatory pain of arthritis.
Its antioxidant properties also protect chondrocytes (cartilage cells) from oxidative death.
Inhibits the master inflammation switch (NF-kB).
Most curcumin is poorly absorbed. Using a high-absorption form (Liposomal or with Piperine) is critical. Studies show it can be as effective as pharmaceutical anti-inflammatories for joint pain and stiffness.
It specifically blocks the NF-kB pathway, preventing the genetic expression of inflammation before it starts.
Prevents LDL oxidation.
LDL particles are relatively harmless until they oxidize (rust). Oxidized LDL (oxLDL) is recognized by the immune system as a pathogen, triggering macrophage uptake and foam cell formation (plaque).
Curcumin acts as a potent antioxidant within the lipid membrane, shielding the particle from oxidative stress.
