Health Goals Impacted 2
This item supports, tracks, or is required for the following health goals:
Assesses the conversion of T4 to active T3.
Many people have "normal" TSH but hypothyroid symptoms (cold hands, hair loss). This is often due to poor conversion of T4 (inactive) to T3 (active), which is driven by stress, liver health, and selenium/zinc status.
This panel reveals if your "engine" is running cold despite the "thermostat" (TSH) looking normal.
Rule out metabolic causes of high cholesterol.
Thyroid hormone (T3) regulates the expression of the LDL Receptor gene. Hypothyroidism (even subclinical) downregulates these receptors, causing LDL to accumulate in the blood.
Treating a sluggish thyroid is often sufficient to normalize lipids without needing lipid-lowering medication.
